An internal battery isn’t a must, it’ll just be used as a stationary home sound system, but I need a good high quality product. It also needs to not be heinously ugly like most wireless speakers seem to be.

I’ve got a bose soundlink mini II and love it.

The UE Boom products are pretty solid. I got my parents one for Christmas last year. Great sound quality, and good range on them too. I was able to change songs from the upstairs while the speaker was outside on the other side of the house.

Honestly the Amazon Echo has an excellent speaker - I just used mine for music during a loud friendsgiving dinner of 20 people in a large studio and you could hear it great over the din without things getting distorted. And you can use it to play your spotify account without your phone being involved, since it’s connected to wi-fi.
I suggest that because if you’re planning on using it as a stationary home system, you’re probably going to end up in the higher range of prices of portable models with internal batteries since most of those aren’t designed for the usage I just described above - so you might as well get a smart home assistant in the package too.

I’ve been very happy with my Sony SRS-X2. I used it in my Golf when all I had was a tape deck. And it fill up my large living room nicely. Costs under $100.

I’ve got a fugoo that’s been excellent. Only wish it was a bit louder, but to be honest it would be more than adequate for home use. I only use mine in the shop.

I originally bought a Fugoo for my parents, but we weren’t all that pleased with it. Returned it for a UE Boom2 and were much happier.

the previous (non-current, but still available new) generation Sony sound bars have good bluetooth support and don’t sound too bad. Good prices can be had on them since they are clearance most places.
the I picked up an Open Boc HTCT 380 at best buy for $149. It’s not a replacement for a real surround system, but its a hell of a lot of performance for the money, and as I said, good bluetooth support. The Android and iOS app allows full control of it’s streaming and internet radio capability too.

I’d consider an Amazon Echo or Google Home speaker for the simple fact they are useful in other ways.
In my opinion nothing beats an old school 2 channel system and most of your little Bluetooth and portable speakers will sound similar. Don’t spend a great deal on something that can only be but so good.
edit* a friend of mine that was at one time a speaker engineer has taken a liking to the JBL stuff.

UE BOOM and the Bose Soundlink Mini 2. I have the Bose and it is amazing even outside in our backyard. I have friends that have the first UE Boom and it’s fantastic and even louder than my Bose.

What’s your budget?
Avoid Skullcandy at all costs, they’re absolute crap.

I just this weekend invested in a “home theater” soundbar and subwoofer from Vizio and enjoyed bluetooth streaming music through it. The center channel on the 3.1 really helped with hearing speaking audio on the TV, which was what prompted the purchase. Sounds incredible. Maybe not what you were looking for, but:

Damn, looks like the price dropped another $17.

$50-100
I’m not in middle school, I recognize that skullcandy is garbage.

My mom’s car has a JBL sound system and it’s absolute trash. The bass is converted directly into noise (rather than pressure) and drowns out all backing tracks, leaving you with muffled yet tinny vocals and whatever the song’s loudest instrument is.

I bought mine when I was in middle school, spent the next couple years regretting it.
JBL and Harmon Kardon (who I believe share a parent company) both make excellent products. I’m thrilled with both my JBL Flip 2, it’s cheaper and less dorky looking than the 3 but still sounds great.

Any of the Marshall bluetooth speakers. They sound the best, and as a guitarist, look the best.

I’d give the bluetooth speaker a chance, but if not, the Bose or HK products are terrific as well.

I hear ya, but never judge an audio company by the branded labels auto manufacturers use to make OEM sound systems better...it’s just marketing. Sound is subjective though, so you’ll find many a suggestion to not agree with your palate.
Also, have you considered self powered monitors like Auidoengine, Mackie, Yamaha etc? Or does it need to be a singular unit?

Look on Amazon for powered Bluetooth stereo speakers. You can get actual stereo sound, amplified. It will sound much better than all but the most expensive stand alone speakers. Look for the Edifier R1700BT.

The Sonos systems are cool for home use. If you want something portable, I recommend the ue boom2. You can even pair 2 of these wireless speakers eh their app (they also accept wired connections and have a tripod mount female screw threads st the bottom).

I have a JBL Flip 2 bluetooth speaker that sounds pretty good. I listened to several at Best Buy before choosing it. I liked the sound better than some others that were more expensive. It’s on the small side so if you’re looking to use it as your primary sound system I don’t know if I’d go that route. My main stereo also has bluetooth so we bring the Flip 2 in other parts of the house, like I use it in the kitchen and my wife uses it in the laundry room.
